UNIFORMs AT SYVCA

It is our desire that our dress code be representative of Biblical principles. A neat and properly attired student has a positive influence on an atmosphere which is conducive to study and good work. God’s Word speaks our goals in the following verses:

Modesty – “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:3-4
“Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5

Unity – “Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” Philippians 2:2
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 15:5-6

Submission to authority – “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.”  Hebrews 13:17
“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority.”  1 Peter 2:13

Uniform Dress Code

All transitional kindergarten through eighth grade students must wear uniforms; it is expected that uniforms will be worn with pride and pleasure. To maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning, students are required to adhere to the uniform code, to wear clothing that is hemmed and in good repair, and to wear the proper shoes at all times. Clothing that has holes or frayed hems is not allowed.

Our goal is to have conformity in the uniform, while allowing a certain amount of flexibility and individuality. Parents may purchase gently used uniform articles from the School’s uniform re-sale closet at $5.00 per piece, or from general retail stores. Stores that have sold uniforms in the past include, but aren’t limited to: Costco, French Toast, Old Navy, Sears, Target, and The Gap.

UNIFORM DRESS COLORS: Navy Blue, Light Blue, White

Short or long sleeved polo shirts may be navy blue, light blue, or white. Shorts and pants may be navy blue or khaki.
Girls also have the option of wearing dresses, skirts or skorts in navy blue, khaki, or navy & gold plaid.

Non-Uniform Days

Theme Dress Days – Theme dress days will be scheduled once a month.  Themes and specific requirements will be explained prior to the designated theme day. Students who choose not to participate in theme dress must wear regular uniform clothing.
